“Endless Love” is the type of movie that can be summed up with a string of teenage clichés and several full body cringes.With an attractive leading couple played by Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde and the theme of summer love heavily prevalent, one would think the actors’ lines wouldn’t matter as much as the sea of abs and bikini bodies.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. The largely superficial and overly dramatic script could be predicted by a preteen. Jane Butterfield (Wilde) had no problem mysteriously losing track of her pants for the majority of the film either.

The premise is simple enough: a privileged recent high school graduate finds herself falling in love with an attractive boy from the wrong side of the train tracks. The story wouldn’t be complete without a little parental drama, though. Jane’s older brother died before graduating high school, putting a decent amount of strain on her parents’ relationship. As a result, her father is incredibly over-protective and would go to some rather extreme lengths involving a restraining order and a baseball bat to keep the star-crossed lovers apart.

Unlike with the classic Nicholas Sparks romances where one main source of drama is focused on throughout the plot, apparently the writers and director of “Endless Love” decided one source isn’t enough.

If you were to diagram the plot of the story, it would look like Lombard Street in San Francisco. They threw in every possible dramatic situation that could be found in a film like this: a son who will never win his father’s approval, a car crash, possible death threats, a house fire, an epic run through the airport scene, a fireplace sex scene, a parental affair and a jealous ex-girlfriend.
